Neterotopia was an event that took place from 16th to 31st March 2006 in various spaces on the Net and in 3 physical locations, the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Careof (Milan) and NICC(Antwerp). Pierre Mertens connected these three locations with a digital box circle allowing visitors to communicate online and within these locations. Daniel Balit and Pierre Mertens curated this exhibition.
Eleven artists from different countries have been invited to choose an Internet site and use the spaces usually reserved for advertising.
Christophe Bruno on liberation.fr, Ghazel on sortiraparis.com, Susan Hefuna on movies.tenuae.com, Nathalie Hunter on google.com, Yuji Oshima on arman.fm, Peter Lemmens and Eva Cardon on wunderground.com, Adam Vackar on inrockutibles.com, Stephen Vitiello on villagevoice.com,
Luca Vitone on viamichelin.it, Version(Gabriela Vanga, Ciprian Muresan and Mircea Cantor) on corriere.it, 0100101110101101.ORG on film.it.
These spaces were thus transformed into exhibition surfaces and points of access to a pathway branching through the public and virtual space of the Internet, the major node of which was the neterotopia.net website.
The project was the result of works between the European organizations NICC (New International Cultural Center), Love Difference and the Pistoletto Foundation.
Neterotopia was ranked among the 15 top projects for the Best Art Practices international award for curators.
